The Emperor as Outcome

Read a direction, then examine its conditions

The Emperor gives a situation a shape sturdy enough to use. Roles, boundaries, plans, and clear expectations can make freedom possible. The test of authority here is whether it creates stability for others as well as control for the person in charge.

Use an outcome position responsibly

An outcome card can summarize where a pattern seems to lead if relevant conditions continue. It cannot guarantee an event or tell you what another person will choose.

1. Name the present pattern that the card appears to describe.
2. Consider what could disrupt or complicate that pattern: Reversed, a useful structure may have hardened into a rule nobody can question. The opposite can also apply: no one takes responsibility, so uncertainty does the governing.
3. Identify a choice that remains open to you: Define one responsibility or boundary that people can understand without guessing.
