Tactical Spread

Decision Spread

A strategic spread that compares two options, reveals the hidden factor, and shows the likely trajectory of the real choice.

A complete 4-card reading example

Name two real options. Draw one card for each, then a hidden factor and a likely direction if the current pattern continues. Compare the tradeoffs; do not simply choose the card that looks happier.

The question: Should I keep developing my current project or start a new one?

  1. Eight of Pentacles tarot card
Option A: develop the current project

    Eight of Pentacles

There is more to gain from improving the craft, though progress may feel repetitive.

  2. The Fool tarot card
    Option B: start again

    The Fool

A fresh beginning offers discovery but leaves more unknown.

  3. Seven of Cups tarot card
    Hidden factor

    Seven of Cups

Imagining many alternatives may be easier than committing to either one.

  4. Two of Wands tarot card
    Likely direction

    Two of Wands

Planning a bounded experiment could turn possibility into a real choice.

Put the cards together

Try a small test of the new idea while defining what “finished enough” means for the current one. Compare the actual work each requires. The cards have supplied questions, not calculated which option will pay off.

Make the reading useful

Add real-world information
List time, resources, commitments, and the information still missing for each option.
Set a review date
Give the experiment a clear end so the decision does not become indefinite.

Position Map

Each position changes what the card is saying. Read the spread as a system, not as isolated card definitions.

Position 1

Option A

The first visible path or proposal.

Position 2

Option B

The second visible path or proposal.

Position 3

Hidden Factor

What is influencing the decision from behind the curtain.

Position 4

Likely Outcome

Where the energy naturally lands if the pattern stays the same.

When To Use It

Best Use Cases

  • Comparing two real options without collapsing into anxiety or fantasy.
  • Seeing which hidden pressure is distorting the choice architecture.
  • Assessing what outcome is most likely if the current bias stays in place.
Reading Principle

How To Read This Spread

The Decision Spread is built for crossroads. It is less about abstract destiny and more about leverage, cost, timing, and what the querent is refusing to account for.

Read each card in the role assigned to its position. Then write one sentence connecting the cards and one next step you can take. If a meaning does not fit, note the uncertainty rather than forcing it.
