Read the emotional pattern
Look at whether responsibility and effort are shared fairly. A sincere apology becomes useful when it includes a specific change.
Separate feeling from inference
Use this lens to explore the emotional quality of a situation. A card cannot verify another person’s private feelings.
- Name the feeling this interpretation brings up in you first.
- Write down the other person’s observable words and actions separately from your explanation of them.
- If it is appropriate to ask, choose a direct question that gives the other person room to describe their own experience.
