Read the emotional pattern
Security matters, but possession is not the same as closeness. Notice whether fear of losing the connection is limiting each person's freedom.
Separate feeling from inference
Use this lens to explore the emotional quality of a situation. A card cannot verify another person’s private feelings.
- Name the feeling this interpretation brings up in you first.
- Write down the other person’s observable words and actions separately from your explanation of them.
- If it is appropriate to ask, choose a direct question that gives the other person room to describe their own experience.
