What is inside the three-page tarot journal

The first page captures one reading, separating what you observed from your interpretation and recording a step you can evaluate later. The second helps you review a week of practice without forcing repeated cards into a prediction. The third gives each card in a three-card spread its own observation space before you connect the positions into one reading.

  1. Observation: Note the cards, positions, images, and your first response before reaching for a fixed meaning.
  2. Interpretation: Describe one possible connection between the card and the question. Point to details that support it.
  3. Another explanation: Record a different reading, an ordinary explanation, or a fact you still need to check.
  4. One next step: Choose a small action within your control. It might be a conversation, a question, or gathering more information.
  5. Return later: Write what happened and what you would keep or revise about the reading.

A fictional example: preparing for a feedback meeting

Focus: What can I prepare for tomorrow's meeting?

Observation: The Six of Pentacles shows an exchange. One figure gives coins while two people receive them; the figures are at different heights.

Interpretation: I may be focused on how feedback and attention are shared in the meeting.

Another explanation: The card could reflect what I hope to receive, rather than what the other person will do. The agenda and previous feedback are better evidence about the meeting.

Next step: Write two questions I want answered and review the meeting notes.

This example does not predict the meeting. It shows how a reading can prompt preparation while leaving conclusions open to evidence.

How to use the three-card page

Assign a clear question and a job to each position before drawing. For example, "what supports this plan, what complicates it, and what can I try next?" Write the card and orientation in each column, then note one visible image or detail before interpreting. In the final fields, explain how the positions speak to one another, write an alternative reading, and choose a practical action or a fact to check. The layout works with any deck; it does not require reversals.

Before drawing, phrase the focus around something you can observe or choose. “What can I prepare for this conversation?” is more actionable than asking the cards to establish what another person secretly thinks. Tarot can support reflection; it cannot verify another person's thoughts or replace professional advice for consequential matters.

Review the reading against life, not just the guidebook

Set a date to revisit the reading. Compare your notes with what you know by then. Which observations remained useful? Which interpretation depended on an assumption? Did the action help you learn anything? A reading can be valuable even if its first interpretation changes. The goal is a more considered practice, not a perfect prediction.
